Therapy description:

SPORT & REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY:
The ISRM Sport & Remedial Massage qualification centres around “Remedial” massage therapy, which simply means to try to “remedy” a musculoskeletal problem. To achieve this it covers a range of massage and advanced soft tissue techniques set within a framework of assessment and rehabilitation. Sports massage is included as a specialist area within Remedial massage therapy, applying all the same techniques and principles in a way that best meet the specific needs of the athlete.

Minor injury is by far the most common musculoskeletal problem but as modern medicine puts effort into treatment of increasingly serious conditions, minor everyday injuries are becoming less adequately dealt with, although they can still be extremely painful and may seriously affect a person's occupation, sport or quality of life. Furthermore, if not treated properly in the early stages, a minor injury can sometimes lead to a more serious condition in the long term. Sports massage can treat the majority of such minor problems quickly and effectively" - Mel Cash, Principle tutor London School of Sports Massage

Who is it for?

Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy is not a replacement for more specialist treatments but may be a good alternative depending on the needs and feelings of the individual patient. Sport and Remedial Massage therapy may work exceptionally well when used alongside other more specialist treatments such as physiotherapy, chiropractic or osteopathy and may therefore be an excellent complement.

Your Sports Massage Therapist should display an open and enthusiastic attitude toward any other treatment you may be receiving and be more than willing to liase with your GP, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Osteopath or any other health care practitioner, complementary or otherwise. Referrals to other specialists are always made where necessary and you can rely on your therapist to refer you to a relevant and high standard practitioner where needed. Restore Sports Massage will only refer to the very best practitioners available based on their reputation (which must be outstanding) and our experience regarding their handling of past referrals.

For your assurance of a highly trained and properly governed Sport & Remedial Massage Therapist always look for the ISRM logo or similar governing bodies as evidence that your therapist is registered. A registered Sports Massage therapist should display all of the qualities discussed above and will operate to a strict code of ethics. Paul Martin of Restore Sport & Remedial Massage is a registered member of the Institute of Sport & Remedial Massage and the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council and is therfore required to obtain a certain level of CPD (continued professional development), education and experience each year in order to remain a member of these professional body's.

Testimonials:

Ruth: MS sufferer
"After six years of investigation into the problem I was experiencing when walking my diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis seemed like an abrupt end to the frustration of not knowing what was wrong. During this time I had visited several osteopaths and physiotherapists. I did at times find some temporary relief from discomfort but it was short lived. From the first treatment with Paul I was able to stand keeping the heal of my right foot down which i hadn't been able to do for a couple of years and can still do so now. My flexibility has greatly improved along with better circulation and less discomfort. Paul's positive approach has had a wonderful effect on me both physically and psychologically. I just wish more MS sufferers knew about this treatment".

Pat: GP referal patient (with prosthetic hips and knee) for rehabilitaion exercise
"I am the client of Paul Martin. I feel obliged to comment on my improvement since starting at the gym in April due to Osteoarthritis, (both
hips and one knee replacement). With his help and enthusiasm and his knowledge and training in sports science he has been able to explain to me how some of my muscles had stopped working, and has been able to adapt exercises to strengthen my muscles and improve my disabilities. Prior to me starting I was walking with the aid of two sticks. Now thanks to Mr Paul Martin I am walking unaided and he has improved my quality of life in many ways".

Rob: extreme athlete (mountain running, mountain biking, mountaineering) experiencing disruptive knee pain
"As one of Paul's longest standing clients I have been consistently impressed with both his treatments and his willingness to research and try new methods and techniques in treating my ongoing knee problems. I would recommend his therapy to anyone who has suffered a sports or work injury and wants expert advice on treatment, training and recovery".
